Manaslu (8156m) is the eighth highest mountain in the world and a perfect choice for those who are interested in climbing one of the accessible and safest eight-thousanders. Manaslu is a name derived from the Sanskrit dialect, which means "Mountain of the Spirit". The Manaslu peak is a part of the Mansiri Himal or Gurkha Massif that lies in the north central part of Nepal, around 100km north west of Kathmandu. The mountain falls in the Manaslu Conservation Area and is closer to Annapurna Himal to the west and Ganesh Himal to the east.

The mountain's long ridges, steep surfaces, rock and snow formation and glaciers drainage make it the most fascinating mountain. There are six established trek routes to the peak, and the south face is deemed the most difficult for climbing.Manaslu was first climbed in 1956 by a Japanese expedition team led by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu Sherpa. Since the Manaslu was first conquered by Japanese led Manaslu expedition team, Japanese people consider it as a Japanese mountain just like the British people considering Everest as their mountain.

Comparing from the technical aspect, Manaslu climbing is equally challenging as Cho Oyu and Shishapangma mountains. Thus, it is a great peak to climb before trying any technical 8000 meter mountain. Climbers must have great physical fitness and mental preparedness for the successful ascent of any peak. Having a greater level of climbing skills is an advantage for climbing Manaslu that include quite long trekking and climbing. To maximize the success of Manaslu summit, Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition is ready to cater every service that you are looking for.

We have designed a 44 and 45 days programs for Manaslu expedition. First itinerary follows different villages for the ascent and descend routes where as second itinerary includes the same route for both ascending and descending. Base Camp to summit includes Camp I at 5700m, Camp II at 6400m, Camp III at 6800m and Camp IV at 7400m. Camp III is just below the col, which is only 3-4 hours distance from Camp II. Camp II is a flat area and the safest section of the whole climbing. Approaching to Camp IV involves glacier climbing steep section of snow and ice with safety measures. The final summit of 8163m peak requires rope fixing and almost 8-10 hours including time to return back to Camp IV. Manaslu expedition is rewarded by breathtaking scenery of stunning snow-capped peaks.
